ISSIMA was founded in 2009 by Anna Fogelmane, a teacher dedicated to music education and helping students to find their own musical expression.
ANNA FOGELMANE
Anna's personal journey in the world of music started at the age of five, where she was trained in the best traditions of the Russian music school. In 2007, she obtained a Masters degree in Music Pedagogy from the highly-regarded Royal Conservatory of the Hague with a specialization in piano teaching under Kamilla Bystrova. Her degree reflects a passion for music education which started when she was still a student in her teens. In the 14 years since her first student, Anna's teaching philosophy has evolved to combine the best elements from the Russian, Western European and American piano schools in order to bring out the best in each of her students. She finds that the best motivation for students inevitably comes from a discovery of their own musical expression. Her youngest piano student at the moment is 4 years, the oldest – a senior adult.
Teacher Anna believes that one never stops learning and discovering new things as musical education continues to evolve. Since the beginning of 2011, she has been exploring a number of exciting innovations in music education. This has taken her to Latvia and Finland where she participated in Carl Orff schulwerk seminars, as well as to a Émile Jaques-Dalcroze eurhythmics summer school and workshops in Switzerland and England. The Dalcroze method, in particular, appeals and fits with her teaching personality, and she is currently on her way to becoming a Dalcroze method specialist by pursuing a diploma in Dalcroze eurthythmics at the Dalcroze Society UK in London. She finds the Dalcroze eurythmics method an excellent, effective and exciting way of learning and experiencing the beauty of music. Anna has already successfully incorporated the method in her piano lessons. From time to time, she also gives workshops on Dalcroze eurhythmics.
She is also an active member of EPTA (European Piano teachers’Association) where she is registered as a piano teacher and a member of Dalcroze society UK. In addition to all this, she also directs the Latvian choir "Ziemeļjūra".
Teacher Anna enjoys exploring different cultures (BA in Arts from the Academy of Culture in Latvia), and she speaks five languages. She has a 8-year-old son Sebastians, who loves singing and plays the violin. She loves the opera, which she considers the greatest music form of all, attends modern ballet and is interested in psychology, modern art and architecture.
